    Vietnam is one of the hottest property markets at the moment and everything from individual buyers, to corporations and fund managers, want to invest here. But one should be careful and do thorough due diligence before taking any hasty decisions.

    A preferred choice should be to hire a local conveyancing lawyer, before getting involved in deals with big transactions. The fact is that things aren’t as transparent and straightforward as you might be used to in developed countries.

    Therefore I’ve written this article where I present some of the biggest and most popular conveyancing law firms in Vietnam.

    1. Baker & McKenzie Vietnam

    Baker & McKenzie is a leading multinational law firm worldwide. It was founded in 1949 in the United States, with its head office situated in Chicago. In terms of revenue, it is ranked as the second biggest law firm in the world, with annual revenue of USD 2.67 billion.

    The company has 77 offices, more than 4,600 attorneys, and around 13,000 employees in globally (including 47 countries). They’ve had a presence in Vietnam for two decades and have two offices, one in Hanoi and one in Ho Chi Minh City.

    There are around 45 persons working for the offices and several partners are foreigners, like Frederick R. Burke, an American national who is also a member of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council for Administrative Reform in Vietnam.

    In the last few years, Baker & McKenzie has become the go-to law firm for multinational companies, financial institutions, and foreign investors. According to Legal 500 and IFLR1000, it’s a tier 1 law firm under the real estate and construction category.

    Duane Morris LLP is a US based and a century-old multinational full service law firm with its presence in Vietnam as well. In addition to Vietnam, it has 27 offices in different parts of the world.

    Their offices are based in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi and opened in July 2007. They have nine lawyers in both cities.

    Dr. Oliver Massmann is the managing director and partner of the Hanoi office, while Giles T. Cooper is managing director and partner in the Ho Chi Minh City office.     Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is considered one of the oldest law firms in the world, with its roots dated back to 1743. This London based full-service law firm is the first international law firm that opened an office in Vietnam in 1994.

    The firm has 28 offices in different parts of the world, more than 425 partners, and over 1,600 associates. They currently have two offices in Vietnam, one in Hanoi and the second office in Ho Chi Minh City.

    The managing director of the Vietnam offices is Tony Foster, who’s been working with the firm since the establishment in 1994. He’s a British national, studied law at the University of California, with a long experience. He’s currently a Board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi.

    The firm serves some of the leading international and domestic corporations and businesses. They’ve closed some of the highest-profile acquisitions in Vietnam so far and were adviser in 5 out of 7 acquisition of large state-owned enterprises with foreign investors.

    They’ve also won several awards, including “Best Global Law Firm” multiple times and represented Bank of England as a legal advisor since the 18th century, making them the oldest law firm in the world.

    4. Bui & Brothers

    Bui & Brothers is a full-service law firm based in Ho Chi Minh City. They offer a full range of legal services to local, national, and international clients.

    5. Tilleke & Gibbins International Ltd.

    Tilleke & Gibbins International is the leading regional law firm in South East Asia with its head office based in Bangkok, Thailand. It is also ranked as the oldest regional law firm in South East Asia, founded in 1890.

    They currently have over 160 lawyers working in the region. It’s also become the first foreign law firm that was granted a license to work in Vietnam when it established its office in Ho Chi Minh City in 1992.
